If you install a BOV or tighten the recirc, your causing the MAF to get readings that are not what the engine is actually seeing, this causes the mixture to be less than ideal. The goose honk killer is not a huge change in the mixture to where it is a huge problem, so if the noise drives you crazy it is a reasonable solution. We have installed them for customers that did not like the noise and the customers did comment back that the idle was slightly less stable coming to a stop. But this is very slight and not a huge issue like a BOV causes.
